Who needs a home security system, anyway?

August 9, 2007 – 6:55 am |

As a kid, I loved the month of August.   I looked forward to school starting with giddy anticipation.  I registered for activities (with my mom).  I shopped for beloved school supplies (with my mom).  I bought new clothes and shoes (also, with my mom).

Now, as the mom, between registering the older two for Pre-K and K, shuttling them to VBS, trying to choose just the right dance program (you know - not too haughty, but not too hoochie), planning a 6th birthday party, plotting whether to add fall soccer and where, determining if 2 should have an outside activity and what - on top of the other zillion items that always loiter on my list of tasks,  I think my brain may literally explode.

Don’t believe me?  Last night I came home late when everyone was in bed.  I locked the house up tight and tiptoed up to bed.  I collapsed - safe, snug … secure?

Perhaps not so secure.

This morning, as we gathered up the troops to start another day, I discovered my keys were still dangling outside the door in the dead bolt.   Beat that - if you can.
