I Googled It For You.
February 22, 2007 – 2:10 pm |I think I might start a new category called “I Googled It For You” full of information you didn’t even know you wanted.
Having heard the Ice-Missile Mom received 5 years probation instead of jail time, and wanting to provide a relevant link, I searched “Ice mom probation.” While I did ultimately find the appropriate link I was shocked by the many crimes other moms have committed that earned the same, or similar, penalty. A sampling:
- A teenage mother received probation when her toddler drowned in a bucket of vomit. She didn’t notice because she was drunk.
- Another mother received only probation when her drug use (of ‘ice’) during pregnancy ultimately resulted in the death of her young baby.
- In Fort Lauderdale a young mother earned even less probation than Ice Missile Mom(only 3 years) when she threw her newborn off a bridge in a backpack. (Apparently, she claimed the baby was stillborn.)
- And, of course, there’s the officer’s daughter who received only two years probation when she failed to report her knowledge of a drug-trafficking operation.
Having no direct knowledge about the circumstances of those cases, I make no arguments either way about the appropriateness of the penalties, but I do think, under the circumstances, Ice-Missile Mama should probably be allowed to get back to parenting, don’t you?
