Mommy Tracks is One.  Saturday is my first Blogiversary.

Back when I wrote that first post, nobody answered the questions.  So, I thought now might be a good time to try again:

What’s your must-read daily blog?  Who’s your favorite author?   Or, you could delurk in celebration and help me figure out who actually reads here, and we could go with …  Who are you?  How’d you get here? Do you have a blog?

Welcome and Happy New Year!

We may have a few technical difficulties as I try to figure out how to get along with Wordpress and this cute new template.  Still a few kinks to work out, but Stay tuned for more - Soon!   In the meantime, if you’re interested, you can read this imaginary interview I conducted with myself.  Blogging rules.

Please be sure to update your blogrolls and put the new, improved Mommy Tracks www.mommytracksblog.com in your favorites.

More On Shutting Up and Looking Pretty

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

It’s undeniable: the cuter you are the more people pay attention to you. Oh yeah, you can try to make up for what you lack in looks by being funny. You can be just a little smarter than the pretty girl next door. Maybe you sing like nobody’s business, but if you don’t have the right look, there’ll be no record deals (with a very few notable exceptions, of course). Unfortunately, conventional wisdom is that it takes a whole lot of content to totally compensate for your form. You gotta be cute.Which is why I decided to have a little work done.

In the spirit of all things Hollywood, it’s time for Mommy Tracks (the blog, NOT the Mommy) to get a makeover. And while she has some Bloggy Botox, I will be taking a little vacation from posting for the holiday season to free up some time for focusing on cooking, eating, shopping, decorating, wrapping, eating, singing, playing and relishing the holidays with my babies … before they grow up. If it’s not too early for NORAD to start watching for Santa, it’s probably not too early for me to start thinking about hanging lights. I’m going to give it my all this season to actually stop and smell the pine needles.

During the hiatus I intend to consider a number of life issues – including whether to start 2007 blogging outside the closet. If you just found this blog, I hope you’ll read some old stuff (my favorite posts are conveniently linked over on the left! ;-0) And if you’re one of the four or so devoted readers, I do hope you’ll pop back in the New Year to see how it all turns out.
Here’s wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and peaceful holidays filled with love.

5 Minutes For Mom

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Guess What! Mommy Tracks is the first listing in the new “Group Blogs” category in the rapidly expanding blog directory at “5 Minutes for Mom”.

As you can see from our unusually quiet blog, we can’t seem to get 5 minutes these days! But when we do, the uber moms at 5 minutes for mom have the goods on all the best stuff. Their site is all about helping promote women’s websites — blogs, online stores, you name it!

The site owners, Susan and Janice, are those notorious 3rd corner work-at-home-mommies and figured they’d help out other moms who got themselves stuck in this crazy work-at-home world. So they let women list their stores (pedal car stores to rocking horse stores, and everything else) for free in their extensive full page description directories. It rocks. We’re psyched to be a part of it.

Stay tuned as we are certain to have more of those moments where creativity and calm collide to allow for important, inspired blogging in the near future. (At least, I hope so.)

The Mommy formerly known as 3under5?

Before you start in about how my Prince reference is outdated, overdone and really not that funny – this suggested resolution to my name change dilemma is not my tribute to the tiny purple man.

I used to watch Mad About You. I don’t remember too many episodes, and I rarely recall quotes. But, in one show, Helen Hunt delivered a line that resonated with me even ‘BC’. Pregnant Jamie Buckman realizes the real implications of pregnancy (that you end up with a baby). And, as the realization sets in, she just repeats the line: “I’m the mommy.” And then with more comprehension… Oh My God… “I’m the Mommy.”

No matter whether we stay home or hire nannies or use day care or combine it all. No matter how awesome our husbands, how supportive our companies, or how much family we have around… Whether we’re rich or poor, famous and fabulous or just ordinary… if our kids are two days old or all grown up… Whoever we are and whatever our choices - we are all feeling the heat. How does this impact them? Is this the best I can do? Are they going to be okay?

Because at the end of the day - once you’re the Mommy – well, there’s no going back.

(Ok, fine – it’s all Prince.)

No More Excuses

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

My oldest son’s impending fifth birthday means I should change my Display Name to avoid false advertising. For the past two years I could explain away all my shortcomings by touting my quantity of small children. “Oh, did I miss that bill? I’m sorry - three kids under five.” “You think your house is a mess - you should see mine: 3 under 5.” “No, I rarely get to movies, that’s just how it is… 3 under 5.” I am not sure what the worst part is - that the kids are getting older, that their aging means I am too, that I am out of a moniker (suggestions welcome in the comments), or that I might be losing my excuse for being less than perfect.
