A little Monday giggle

Monday, September 17th, 2007

My son’s Kindergarten teacher is adopting a new baby.  At least, I think that’s what this must mean:

“Mrs. J is going to be gone for awhile.  She went to China to get pregnant.”

A Book for the Burning List

I’m not afraid of bugs. I’m not a bug-lover by any means, but I can deal with the occasional creepy-crawly. This has proven useful in my life. If you need someone to step up to the plate and take out the nasty spider, or steer the buzzing bee out of the house, I’m your woman.

Unfortunately, if a trait such as this is genetic, this gift did not pass down to my increasingly girly four-year-old daughter. She hates bugs. And she’s not afraid to show it. If, for example, she sees a fly or gnat in the bathroom, she will shriek, sob and run from the room in the kind of panic most of the rest of the world saves for something a bit more serious - like nuclear war or armageddon. She will then boycott that particular bathroom for several days until I can persuade her that the nasty beast has departed. (more…)

The limits of my perfectionism

Friday, September 7th, 2007

I freely admit there are certain things I have to have ‘just so’. Various daily routines and work issues need to be handled in a specific manner with a practical, programmatic approach. As I’ve surely mentioned, this common trait of those born under the sign of Virgo did not skip over me.

Strangely though, this kind of focus on the details does not translate to hanging pictures or shelving. Much to my Virgo husband’s dismay, I will happily pound three random holes in the wall to hang one painting without even blinking. Who has time to measure?

Am I alone in this?

Sunday is Grandparents’ Day.

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

I accidentally learned that Sunday is Grandparents’ Day. (Apparently, it’s always the second Sunday in September - who knew?) Then, I stumbled on these lesson plans and ideas for kids about Grandparents. Just in case you don’t already have the date programmed on the Google Calendar, I thought I’d be helpful.

If you don’t feel like talking grandparents in the comments, feel free to discuss whether I have appropriately utilized the apostrophe in my description of the day. Apparently, there’s no clear answer on this one.
